Smyl (“we”, “our”, “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Smyl mobile application (“App”).

By using Smyl, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. What Smyl Is

Smyl is a college-focused social networking app built for students and alumni (18+).

• Pulse – posts and campus updates
• Confessions – anonymous sharing
• Speed Dating – short-form matching and chats
• Other campus-based social interactions

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Name, email address, profile photo (via Google Sign-In)
• College / university name, student or alumni status
• Bio and optional profile details
• Posts, confessions, comments, reactions, chats, media uploads
• Support messages and abuse reports

Information Collected Automatically

• Device type, OS version, app version, language
• IP address (security & abuse prevention)
• Usage analytics, crash logs, performance data

3. How We Use Your Information

• Create and manage your account
• Enable Pulse, Confessions, and Speed Dating
• Maintain safety and moderation
• Prevent spam, fake accounts, and misuse
• Improve performance and user experience
• Send service and security notifications

We do not sell your personal data.

4. Google Sign-In & Firebase

Smyl uses Google Sign-In for authentication. We do not collect or store your Google password. Firebase is used for authentication, database storage, analytics, and crash reporting.

5. Confessions & Anonymity

• Confessions are anonymous by default
• Your identity is hidden from other users
• Internal identifiers are accessed only for safety or legal reasons

6. Speed Dating & Chats

• Chats are visible only to matched users
• Private messages are not read unless required for safety or law

7. Data Retention

• Data is stored while your account is active
• Account deletion removes data within 30 days
• Limited backups may remain up to 180 days

8. Your Rights

• Access, correct, or delete your data
• Withdraw consent
• Raise grievances under DPDP Act, 2023

9. Children’s Privacy

Smyl is intended only for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we discover that a minor is using Smyl, the account will be removed and associated data deleted.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated within the app or via email where required.

11. Compliance

Smyl complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), and applicable Google Play and Apple App Store privacy requirements.
